There is so much out there to read!

There is so much out there to read, isn´t it? Sometimes I have a hard time choosing. A long time ago I used to read books in piles, my bookshelf still witness this great book-reading-mania. Nowadays I read blogs. I want to get back to reading book and have started with a few related to my projekt, Fotografi (a basic book about photography) as well as a book about Bergslagen and different notions of the concept of Bergslagen, it is named Fram träder Bergslagen, nytt ljus över gammal region. This photoproject has gotten me really hooked on books and litterature and pictures about Bergslagen, but why not learn som old Swedish history, I think we are to bad at our own history, don´t you think? How many know the history of their own city or village for example. I don´t think there is so many that we like to think. I think that we always take it for granted. My next readings will continue on the same theme, Bergslagen and the surroundings, or photography. Maybe …

Katarina

Fujifilm Instax mini 25 – a polaroid camera

In Paris I bought a new camera. Something different. A polaroid camera to be exact. How fun to play with! It is a easy to use little thing, just point and shoot really. The camera also have a selfie-mirror on the front which makes it easy to take a portrait of yourself. The film is a bit expensive, about 10 photos cost around 12-13 Euro, 15-20 dollars and around 100-200 sek. But on the other hand you get something that not so many others have to give to your friend on the trip or just keep yourself in the wallet. The photos are the size of a creditcard. You unpac the camera, unpac the film and put the film in the back, matching the yellow dot on the film to the yellow dot on the camera. You don´t need to do anything more than that and hit the power button on the back. You can shoot with or without flash and on the setting L (light), normal and D (Dark): I tried them all and …

Exploring Bergslagen – Mossgruvan

Me and Martin has been out and about today, doing some urban exploration. The notion of urban exploration might be new to someone but shortly it means, to explore a man-made object, often ruins or abandoned areas. This is a newly found interest of mine due to my photo project and I have posted posts before – Stripa Mossgruvan is a former mining village in the municipality of Ljusnarsberg in Västmanland (County of Örebro). I live in the county, so have about an hour by car to get to the two old mines in Mossgruvan, Sköttgruvan and Mossgruvan- mines. The two mines where found in the 1870´s and run to 1972, first started by SKF and culminating inbetween the years 56 to 58 (post-war times), by then owned by Hofors Bruk. Due to the prices of iron/ and the stone on the world market, the ability for Mossgruvan to compete vanished and the mine closed down by 72. The area is nostalgic in so many was. The buildings in the village are a remaining of the …

the Eiffeltower

Just got back from a long days of hard work work work. Will award you with a nice pic of the eiffeltower. Don´t be chocked now, but… We never went up in the tower.. It started with rain and ended in sunshine! Isn´t it magnificent? Katarina Canon 5D Mark iii, 24-105 mm Canon lens, editing in Lightroom and Photoshop Fun facts about the tower—-> It is made of iron and is 324 m high. It was created to the world exhibition in 1889, as an entrance for the exhibition and for the celebration of 100 years since the French revolution. The eiffeltower is probably one of the most famous buildings and has one thing in common with Grythyttan. Grythyttan also hold a building that was built for a world exhibition, this one in Sevilla in 1992. A exhibition that I attended as an eight year old. The eiffeltower is one of my favorite buildings and I have a pair of earrings that is a replica of the tower. More written about Paris on my behalf- My …

My outfits in Paris.

Since Paris is the fashion capital of magnitude I think it is a good idea to show the outfits I was wearing in France just for fun. Outfit day one   Outfit day two     Outfit day 3   Outfit day four   Outfit day 5   And some others..   Photos by my Canon 5D Mark iii. 24-105 mm Canon lens as well as my Sigma 50mm Art lens. Edited in Lightroom. More written about Paris on my behalf- My photoguide to Paris, Hotel Eldorado- Paris and The cemetaries of Paris.

Hotel Eldorado – Paris

When booking our stay we checked out more than one alternative. Our choice fell on Hotel Eldorado on the street Rue de Dames due to the easy reason that it was chic and less expensive then hotels in the city center. My mother found this hotel on the blog granntanter.se, whom we also where traveling with for three of our six days stay.   Location 18 Rue de Dames 750 17 Paris Homepage Within walking distance from the subway/bus/square Place de Clichy How We booked our stay through the site booking.com. It is probably possible just calling the hotel and book. The receptionists speak English (at least all we met during our six nights stay). Appearence/ service The hotel deserves the word pitoresque cause that is what it is. I have never seen anything more French/ Moulin Rouche without bad lighting/ Montmartre – feeling in my life. It is a variety of asian/african and french stuff. The reception seen in the picture, held fresh flowers, a brown reception desk as well as a BIG old …

The cemetaries of Paris

It feels a bit odd, walking into a cemetery in France, as a tourist taking photos. But figured after being in both Sacre Couer as well as Notre Dame, if the church can take advantage of tourist than it is okay to take photos in both churches and in peaceful places as cemetaries. Come to think about it, if it was me lying there I would be glad if someone took photos of my gravestone. I love churches, but after visiting two cemeteries in Paris I think I have to extend the concept to including cemeteries as well. What a peaceful and lovely place, at some points messy, but mostly just a gorgeous mess of leaves and old gravestones, some taken care of and some don´t. Cimitiere de Montmartre When in Montmartre we visited the graveyard there. It is the third biggest in Paris after the Pére Lachaise and Montparnasse cemetaries.   Checking up some info it tells me that it dates back early 19th century (1825 to be exact) and is an old abondend …

Montmartre

Ever seen the film Amelie from Montemarte? Now is the time. Though there where no Amelie, me and my mother managed to see and purchase a knitted garment from Montemarte, so everytime I´ll see it from now and on, I will think of it as the ”Knitted garment from Montemarte”. I´ve heard that Montemarte is cosy and ”French”, but we headed for Montemarte to see the church Sacre Coeur, one of the top ten turist attractions in Paris. On the way, we passed the Cementiere de Montemarte, the graveyard of Montemarte. How to get to Montemarte During out stay we have been at the Hotel Eldorade on the street Rue de Dames, from Rue de Dames we walked down do Place de Clichy (this is a square that have both metro and bus) and just up the hill/street from there. There is signs, saying Sacre Couer all over the place. They are just a bit hard to find sometimes so asking is preferable instead of walking in the wrong direction as my mother and I …

Fleemarket at Porte des Vanves

And the last day with granntanter, Camilla Thulin and Karina Ericsson Wärn, arrived. We met outside the Odeon theatre, which we did all three days. Together we took the bus to Porte des Vanves where we where to attend a fleemarket. The fleemarket had many things of medium to high quality. Mostly high quality prices though. I managed to make find that I am particularly proud of and it was a photography of Birgite Bardot, holding a rabit next to a car, by Patrica Bertrand. Among the pictures isn´t the photo thought but a photo of the photographer himself. I tried speaking to him with some basic basic English. He spoke a word or two and I managed to find out that he used to be a photographer in th 60´s and 70´s, nowadays he just used the iphone he said. He had amazing photographs of celebrities, photo which I think was taken in connection to different film- location at the time he was active. The market held some treasures for others as well, and …

Luxury – vintage clothing and fabulous food in Paris

Today I have prepared a massive photopost for you. Today was our second day on the trip and we had som much fun. We went food- shopping, luxury shopping, to a monestery, had Asian food, walked the gallery distrivs, continued shopping (looking for vintage shopping) and so forth. The day had its highlights and must point out the hat the Karina Ericsson Wärn bought as one of the highlights, as well as when Ingmar tried out vintage underwear at a vintage market. We also made a quick stop at Hermes, where I found my new future to by all stuff with pattern, Equator (in French). The new Hermes butique lies in an old bathing house in Paris. In Le Bon Marche, a shopping center, I bought some Dior make-up and got beutiful bags to carry it in. Did a quick selfie in the bathroom of Le Bon Marche, as well as group selfies in Hermes and other vintage store. Enjoy the photos! Katarina Shot with Canon 5D Mark iii, 24-105 mm Canon lens. First day with granntanter in Paris

As declared before this trip is a prearranged trip by granntanter.se, Camilla Thulin och Karina Ericsson- Wärn, who run the blog granntanter.se. Granntanter is two ladies with lot of knowledge about fashion and style in general, Camilla with the roots from Beckmans (a school of fashion design) and Karina, who writes books about fashion. They both do a lot of things and are pretty busy ladies. Today was the first day of the three days long prearranged trip and since I do not have any time for blogging I will get back to stuff later in the blog. This first day was about getting to know eachother. We visited the Dries van Noten exhibition att the Louvre but also, Svenska klubben and strolled around Paris, visiting the house where the first YSL boutique was situated. In our freetime some of us hijacked chanel and dreamed of being able to afford anything. My wallet allowed a selfie in the mirror. Camilla and Karina has great knowledge of fashion and delivers history with great entusiasm and humor. …

La vie en rose

I never thought the famous song by Edit Piaff was named ”Life in pink”. Not sure if Paris is so pink but here are my first ”photo-day” of my stay in Paris. It is the Louvre, Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe and the dashing Eiffel tower. Will get back with text when I get my energy back. Now it is off to bed. Katarina Photos of me by my mother, the rest is of course mine. Shot with my Canon 5D Mark iii and my Canon lens 24-105 + my new! Sigma 50 mm Art lens.

Testing my friends Nikon D90- some houses and leaves- in Grythyttan

Always wanted to try out a Nikon DSLR. My friend have one and got to borrow it for a while. Tried it out this weekend. My first reactions was ”How the **** do I set Iso, aperture and shutterspeed. After a while I found it and moved on started shooting, realizing that I already forgot how to set the different settings, again I found them and so forth. My second reaction- The colors are different? The colors feel more saturated. Could this be right? Well the following photos are edited and I haven´t done a real comparison with other of my photos. My third reaction- In a way it feels easier to handle and have less ”sensitive” settings. In general I feel this camera is a great alternative to a professional camera. I am not the kind of person that can afford more than one camera, but if I where, I might go for a Nikon as a complement for my Canon for fun and for photowalks, since it is easier to carry around. A …
