Katarinas nyårskarameller- september till december

The last post in this years nyårskarameller- check last years out here. September kom med fart och fläkt och jag åkte till Stockholm för att hänga med en annan bloggare som heter Antonia. Hon och jag gick på en lång fotopromenad och jag fick fota gröna lund för första gången. September arrived and along come speed and excitement and I went to Stockholm to meet up with another blogger named Antonia.

Shit pomfritt, already part two. That is probably my expression for the year. It is strange that you say that weird stuff sometimes, it comes and goes. Have heard that the kid’s expression right now is ”disgusting”. I believe my partner have used this a long time, must be that he is the right age group then. This post is about May to August of fantastic 2014. Some years feels way too boring …

Katarinas Nyårskarameller 2014- Januari till April

Martin använde officiellt snöhögen som kylbox. Kalasbra. In January my rabbit still eas alive and it was crazy with snow on …

Backpacking plans- From Paris to Berlin

Started planning next year trips. The major trip I am undertaking is going backpacking through Europe with train. I love love love train. So expect to be bombarded with photos mainly of trains.. Went googling, another favorite sports of mine today and ended up on Interrail homepage. Found the below map.  The Rail Planner App On the page I also found the Rail Planner App when checking the prices for backpacking passes. I wish I was under the age of 25 but since I am not I will pay more than twice as much as Martin. For 22 days I will pay 812 Euros if I buy my pass today and Martin will pay 345 Euros. I actually though it would be cheaper for me, but it wasn´t. Anyway, to plan your travels it is possible to use the Rail Planner App where you can check out the train time schedule. I tried it and it worked fine. The Interrail website also have other tips as how to plan your travels according to a small …

Christmas Day- Cool winter weather and a late Christmas tree

Mum and dad normally buys a Christmas tree every year (an tree that is suppose to be outside). This tree arrived late the day before Christmas. Since we are otherwise engaged most of the time during Christmas the tree was forgotten about, until today. Waking up the weather was sunnier than ever and around -7 to -9 degrees. Icing cold compared to Christmas Eve in Hultsfred which started with a temperature of + 7 and ended with snowstorm. Mum and I headed out on a short walk around the lake. Perfect photoweather. We shot some portraits and met some old neighbours. When we got home Martin and my father where decorating the Christmas tree. Now we are at Martin parents home and the family are watching Niclas Mat meeting Gaston in Lima and I am bloging. Later we will play Julklappsspelet, fighting over gifts. Merry Xmas. What a odd Christmas Eve.

I mean weather wise. It started with sunshine and ended with close to a snowstorm. Inbetween lots of food and gifts. I got a weird unexpected present, a steam cleaner. Never expected that. What did you get? Something unexpected? Katarina   Canon 5D Mark iii 25-105 Canon lens Editing in Lightroom

Last minute Christmas prep.- Mozartkugeln, Alfajores and wrapping gifts

The last of the Christmas preparation is always turned into a hectic frenzy of baking, cooking and wrapping. For my family this means mostly just choosing one Christmas candy kind that come in a box and then work the rest of the Christmas holiday. Last year on the other hand me and me mother prepared Mozart kulor (Mozartkugeln). This year we decided to make it a tradition. Last years photos can be found here. At the same time that me and mum prepared Mozartkugeln, Martin made Alfajores, a yummy Peruvian small cake. You can find both recipes down below.

The archipelago of Finland – a Scandinavian exotic paradise

Who need to go to South Africa when you have the archipelago of Porvoo/Borgå in Finland? So close to Christmas it is necessary with dreams of warmer places or times, I think. It seem to be more and more common that people flee the country and run to Asia or the Carribean during Christmas. I have no traveling plans at the moment so well, I dwell among travelphotos on Pinterest. Unhealthy you may think but I like to believe that the mind needs some rest at moments, that it needs to dream of long summer days and not so dark summer nights. This post will be just about that, the summer light and the exotic view from a Scandinavian country in the form of a travel destination you ought to go to during next summer. Before traveling to Finland I was unaware of the archipelagos of the Scandinavian countries and what treasures they hold. Of my time in Porvoo, the archipelago was the best experience and therefore so close to Christmas I travel back with this post. …

A sunny December walk before heading home.

Now finally Christmas has caught up on me. I am heading home to family as I have been all other Chistmases. Am counting presents in my head as we speak. Important not to miss anyone. Martin made som fudge wednesday and when we are back we definitively will cook more. I mean, Martin will cook and I will take photos. Yesterday me and Martin went for a walk in the sunny weather. It was astonishing. Sunny and happy weather, I wish that it was more of what that came from. All Sunday will be a long drive home, around 300 km´s on small roads. Will be back at work in January and hopefully I will have had much fun by then. Pärlans Hallonkola/ Raspberry Fudge

Last year Martin made a sensational home made raspberry fudge. He told me that this fudge used to be sold in a confectionary in Uppsala/Stockholm in the 70´s, called Pärlan. It was so famous that is was sold for 7sek (about a dollar) a piece. I don´t know if this is a true story about the Pärlans Hallonkola, but anyway, it is so worth it. Wednesday he made them again. You can find the recipe down below.

P*I*N*T*E*R*E*S*T

I have found my new obsession. It is spelled P*I*N*T*E*R*E*S*T. Pinterest is a social media where you keep billboards and pin (similar to save) photos, possible to share or follow others. I must say I love it. Save all kinds off stuff, mostly for inspiration or stuff I want to buy that I will never afford, like a Hasselblad camera. Join in! Katarina

I am a foodie.

I am officially a foodie. Wikipedia tells us- ”A foodie is a gourmet, or a person who has an ardent or refined interest in food and alcoholic beverages. A foodie seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out of convenience or hunger.” Katarina   Canon 5D Mark iii Canon 24-105 mm Canon lens Edited in Lightroom

When the seasons shift – and along comes snow

Do anyone remember the post I posted the forth of November about the shift in season? M-R, a blogger in Australia pointed out after seeing a purple photo from the lake close to my house during sunset that I should show more photos so it would be possible for those who are not accustomed to the shift in seasons to see the variations. And so I promised her, to do just that. This is my second post in the series of the shift in seasons. The last post covers July to late October and works as a recap on some Swedish phonmenas that all Swedes know but that might come as a surprise to others. I talk about the hot july weather and it´s green surroundings, the possibility to hang on the beach and Allemansrätten. I speak of the dog days  and mushroom season during August, September and it´s fog as well as its expression ”“You should freeze waiting for the winter and sweat waiting for the summer””. I also talk about October and the frost as well as …

The end of an era- the last Hobbit movie

Sunday was spend Christmas shopping and with the last Hobbit movie. Now that the era is over, I kind of feel nothing. I thought I would feel more. I guess I am in some form of chock. Hobbit-chock. I am a bit disappointed of the end.. I have to say. Sorry Hobbit lovers etc, I loved it but.. well the end.. Wont spoil it for everybody else so I will leave it at that. Don´t mistake my disappointment for not loving the fairytales though. Last year I wrote a declaration of love about the hobbit movies. Read it here. So me not loving the end is probably just a disappointment in the lack of a fairytale end. Now is to early to have any opinion more than, well, this was the end and I am not sure if I liked it Peter Jackson. I  probably have to come back to this and explain why. I have promised myself to watch them all, all the Hobbit and Lord of the Ring movies during Christmas. Already looking forward …

Traveling in group – the reborn way of traveling

During the fall I have both been in Finland and in Paris. They have two things in common, or maybe three. 1. They where group travels 2. They where related to blogs 3. And well, they where both in Europe. I am about to speak about the first thing, to travel in group. Over the years traveling and what is fashionable within the concept, have changed. Early travelers had to stay for a longer while in one place and today travelers rather stay less time than more. Weekend trips is one of the most fashionable things, at least here in Sweden. ”A weekend to Paris, a weekend to Istanbul or why not a weekend in New York for that mather?”. Well, Swedes have always been great travelers, early to catch up with the new thing. You wont meet many Swedes who hasn´t been outside the country. Visiting USA on the other hand, you will meet more than one. But this is another story.. What has also come to be popular now is traveling in groups. From …

Some cooking and some friends.

Late yesterday evening when I got home from work, Martin and Daniel was cooking some food in the kitchen at the academy. Strolled over and took some photos. They where cooking, mashed potatoes, ribs, broccoli, gravy and some apple-cream. For desert they made creamcheese sorbet with rasberries and caramelised chocolate. Yummie right! I had salmon instead of ribs since I eat no meat. A simple tip is the broccoli which was fried in oil and then drenched in butter adding salt. Very delicious. It has been a long work week and now I am enjoying my weekend and are working on some travel-related upcoming posts. Katarina Canon 5D Mark iii Sigma 50 mm 1,4 Art lens Editing in Lightroom
