A Greek Wedding Story – Vicky and Stefanos

Saturday the 11th of July my cousin in Athens got married to his Vicky. I was there as a guest with Martin, my aunt and family, it was a greek ortodox wedding and my first of the kind. The morning started with some baklava and celebrating my other cousins birthday. It continued with getting ready for the wedding, sweating and trying to cool down at the same time. It seemed cooler then the other days, but still hot enough to be difficult when wearing dress coats. The wedding took place in a small local church close to my cousins home and the party at a beach a 20 minutes drive from Athens. In the church we got to witness a whole procedure of speaking and singing in something like latin, not understanding a word. But even if not understanding the language it was something special about it. During the evening the atmosphere was relaxed, no speaches, just an open bar and good food. We concluded that we didn´t miss the Swedish speaches and the stiff …

Istanbul – the streets

I went a little crazy with the number of photos of Istanbul why I dedicate to posts with just photos of the streets in the city. The Blue Mosque in Istanbul

Since photographing a mosque was new to me I took so many photos that I decided to make an own post of the photos I shot there. I come to find that I enjoy more and more shooting photos of people and that is what this post ended up being about. People, their laughter and feet. Venice – a quick guide including photo tips

Arriving in Venice the 27 degrees Celsius hits me in the face quite hard, even though it is only around 9.00 in the morning when the night train from Munich come rolling into the St. Luzia station at the Venice island. At first Martin and I almost disembark at the wrong station, Maestre, which also is Venice but main land. After a short stressful moment the island of Venice appear, and that is where we are going.        the SERVICE Even though we are not checking in to the hotel until 14, we head for the hotel Bargarin at Campo. S Marina. With sweat dripping everywhere, smelling, we drag our assess into the Italian hotel. The receptionist looking suspiciously at us. ”Name, please”. After giving the name the service start to flow and such much better service. The guy gives us water, breakfast and repeatedly say ”You room will not be ready before two” and we answer the same number of times ”We know, we just want to sit here”. After 20 minutes he …

Street photos in Venice

So much people! The thought hits me when I enter the city of Venice. As a break from the ramble on about our trip I give you some photos of people in the streets. Do you recognize piazza St. Marco? the berlin wall.

After doing the classic round we ended the tourist day by visiting East Side gallery, which is street art on the eastern side of the Berlin wall. Here you can find the crying Einstein (probably have fancier name) as well as Picasso look a like street art and locks with names in them in many colors.  Walking from the S bahn station Warschauer Strasse to Ostbahnhof – you find the street gallery on Muhlenstrasse. We liked it so much that we returned the second day, Thursday the 11 th of June, so we could scout some more art but mostly just hang with the other cool kids by the water. During the day the sun was intense and what better than to find a nice spot in the shadows and just hang, feeling Berlin grow on you and making imaginary plans to move here some day. The best thing about traveling must be to dream.   Katarina Shot with canon eos m3 and 40 mm pancake lens ed in lightroom

Visit Fotografiska – a place for fun, a place for knowledge

Monday I visited Fotografiska for a second day in a row and decided to buy an one year membership at the museum. Is it weird to say you love a place and that you are going to visit every exhibition from now on when moving to Stockholm? Well, maybe it isn´t entirely true, but I most likely will visit a lot, maybe even take a photocourse on my spare time. I am looking at them now and I see that I have some blank spots of knowledge to fill that can be filled or at least partly filled with these courses. You can´t get to much knowledge right? Happily situated at Stadsgårdskajen close to Slussen (subway/metro) it is possible to visit Fotografiska everyday, all day, between the hours 09-23. Fotografiska is more a meeting place for photographers than a museum.  Göran Segeholm is one of the teachers here. The same guy that holds both Bildradion and Fotosidans pod-radios/casts. I must say that I love them and him as a telling voice, so I can understand why his courses is so …

Canon EOS M3

Now I have owned this little beauty for a while and decided that it is worth a simple ”What do I think about it then”. I also gave it a stylish shoot on my kitchen table, I think it deserved it. Canon EOS M3, one of Canons first mirrorless compact DSLR and goes within the enthusiast category. Canon has the golden three categories of beginners, enthusiasts and professional. What I like about this little beauty: Small size Flip screen + flip built in flash Full manual possibilities and some creative settings and effects as built in fisheye mode Possible to use your other EOS system – lenses with the EOS – M mount adapter. You can see this on the pictures below (the first thing I ordered to the camera after buying it). After trying it out for some time now I must say that I like the camera a lot. It doesn´t have a built in ”eye” or viewfinder, something that is possible to buy extra, but I must say that I don´t mind after …

A Bergslagen wedding – Linnea and Alexander

A spring wedding in Bergslagen Two weeks ago on the second of May a spring wedding took place in Bergslagen in the county of Örebro, the wedding between Linnea and Alexander, two active dancers from Nora. I met with Linnea and Alexander the first time in February, discussing the plans for their spring wedding. At that time, spring seemed far off talking about what to come, in the dark February evening. As a photographer a wedding is a big event, so big that a lot of photographers doesn´t even want to shoot it. A good thing then, I am brave. Well, the night before I must say I was a bit nervous and when thinking back as I told the couple when handing over their photos yesterday, ”I don´t remember a bit from the actual ceremony”. Maybe I was focused, maybe I was nervous, who knows. But I do remember the feeling, the atmosphere when the couple came out from the church, laughing, hugging their loved ones, dancing and the color of the cake. And that …

The day after a big event.

Shot my first wedding yesterday. Will show you pictures after I handed them to the clients and gotten their approval of course. Today, my day has been like a blur and I feel somewhat like the anemones you see on the pic, a bit pale and past time but still hanging on. I planned my day according to all tips and tricks out there to find and all of them payed off in one or the other way. Like: 1. Use comfortable clothes, but look representable. I went for the old fashion – trick of wearing black. I found myself lying on the ground and bending my feet in all possible ways so a pair of ballerina as one photographer suggested on her blog where the best tips. 2. Bring snacks. I didn´t have time to eat so yes, I snacked in my car inbetweem locations. Good suggestion. 3. Memorize schedule. I did, and that was good. I got all the photos I wanted and needed but it was with small marginals all the time. …

Today we prepare for tomorrow.

Sometimes it feels like you live your live thinking about what will come tomorrow instead of living today. Today have been such a day, but for a good reason. Tomorrow I am shooting a wedding and it will be my first, as half a professional. Don´t know what to call it when I am something inbetween. I am way to serious about my photography and my equipment to call myself a amateur in the long run but on the other hand I haven´t the longest experience, anyway, on instagram I call myself an aspiring photographer. That kind of fits, I think. I started the morning by cleaning my equipment, that was about time. I normally just dust the glass of but are far to neglecting with my displays on the camera as well as checking so nothing is broken or has a crack in it. Tomorrow is the big day, yes it is. From this mornings cleaning session, shot with my iPhone 6+. Katarina

Testing the new tripod by shooting some selfportraits by Torrvarpen

A while ago I bought a new Tripod after looking for a while. This camerathing is an expensive sport  I assure you. Reading what felt like hundred reviews I didn´t become any wiser and decided to ask my friend Helena with the blog Ohdarling.org for assistance and she recommended the tripod she has, the Sirius T-2005X with the ballhead K20X. This is what I finally went for after comparing this with others. If you follow the link you will see how freaking expensive camera things are. Some week ago this tripod arrived with mail and I how now been out testing it for the first time. When I know it a little better I probably give you a full description but what I tested was just plain simple usage: 1. Mount the camera on the ball head 2. Adjust the different settings 3. Stability of legs and the tripod as a whole and so far I am very satisfied! It is extremely small for it full length and weighs not more than 1.4 kilos if …

Norway- my favourite images

Oh Norway, what a view! Cheesy, I know, but the above expression is an understatement of Norway and the image possibilities. Here comes the first photos from me and my mothers trip to Norway last weekend. It is an cavalcade of Oslo, Bergen and Lillehammer and of course, the roads and the views inbetween. Katarina (a bit of a lie, the first photo is from Töcksfors Sweden 😉 ) Shot with Canon 5D Mark iii, and Canon 24-105 mm f/4 lens, except for the night photo that was shot with Canon 40mm f/2.8 lens. Edited only in lightroom.

Canon 24-105 mm f.4 lens.

One of my best best buddies is my Canon 24-105 mm f/4 lens. When out traveling I use this as a standard. It is enough zoom to have a range of possibilities as landscape and portrait. It is a wide angle lens that always saves me when in crowded and places with wide angles and creates terrific scenes when shooting landscape. Shot almost all my photos from Norway this way. Shot these photos of the lens at the same time as when I shot the photos of my lens baby lens. Katarina     Photos shot with this lens, Machu Picchu in photos and Some other favorite photos from Borgå/ Porvoo.

Shoot better travel photographs – Mix color and black & white- the story about Paris

Who besides me love black and white photography?  I think it is something special with black and white photos and fill my Instagram account with them as well as the blog. Today we use photoshop to get photos black and white, something we before used film for. Today we have the possibility to cover the entire story when shooting, not just take one photo of the eiffeltower and leave out the rest of the city, when in Paris. We are either aware of what we are doing or we just do it, but normally we use technique that is called storytelling when putting our images together. A lot of us use it and tell the entire story of a travel destination without text, like a well filled photoalbum in one post. I like to do this all the time, I can add 40 photos from one day in one post here at the blog. To keep the story entertaining I like to mix color and black and white photos. Especially portraits do well in black …

Trial and error – preparing for a wedding – the photographers view

Shooting my first wedding in May. Met the couple today to check out some spots around the church. The church is very beautiful and we decided for some nice areas around the church for portraits. This photo was taken when I was hanging over the altar in the front of the church. A funny situation occurred when I was shooting inbetween the decorations that caused both the couple as well as I to laugh, and well, to slow shutterspeed made this nice motion blurr. Anyway, weddings are suppose to be fun so lets hope there will be more of that on the wedding- day. 🙂 Katarina Shot with Canon 5D and Sigma 50mm Art lens, ed Lightroom
