Ivanssons bilskrot i Töcksfors / The car cemetary of Töcksfors

I do like abandoned places. I share the fascination with various bloggers, travlers, historians etc. out there. I have visited a couple of mines so far and when mom and I headed for Norway, I said, ”We must see the car cemetary of Töcksfors”. So we went. Arriving in Båstnäs at the car cemetary it is like time stopped in the 50s. The car that was popular at this time is spread out in nature and works as an art installation in the middle of Värmlands deep forests. To see more photos from this site visit other Urban Explorers webpages or others such as: Jan Jöhrnmark or the Municipality of Årjäng. Directions: Coming from Karlstad you take E18 towards Oslo. When in Töcksfors you turn left heading for Västra Fågelvik (you see a church on the right side of the road when turning). You continue on this road for around 25 km, never exiting just driving straight ahead. After 25 km you reach the sign “Här slutar allmän väg” and that is when you are at the …

Roadtrip Norway: Grythyttan – Oslo (stretch one)

Having a coffee break outside Karlstad My mother and I started our roadtrip to Norway on the 8th of April, it lasted for five days and the goal was Oslo, Bergen and Lillehammer, stopping at some spots inbetween. The distance is around 300 km and is estimated to take around 4 hours. Mother and I took the first break in Grums, at Gruvön, checking out some graffiti and having a coffee break.   Continuing to Töcksfors After having our coffeebreak we continued against our first actual stop, Båstnäs and the Ivanssons bilskrot. Directions: Coming from Karlstad you take E18 towards Oslo. When in Töcksfors you turn left heading for Västra Fågelvik (you see a church on the right side of the road when turning). You continue on this road for around 25 km, never exiting just driving straight ahead. After 25 km you reach the sign ”Här slutar allmän väg” and that is when you are at the car cemetary of Båstnäs.     It is really something extra when arriving in Båstnäs. That is also …

Meeting an urban explorer

Don´t know if anyone remembers me heading to Mossgruvan mine in Bergslagen in October. Well, I was there in small attempt to do some urban exploring. It actually made me find somewhat a new photointerest, maybe not so much just old industrial sites but the whole thing of old things just left as they where, left there for someone to find them. Anyway, in October I headed to Mossgruvan to explore and met a guy that was doing the same thing, exploring. So we talked and he actually is a ”real” urban explorer, what that now is. Today he emailed me that his site is up, filled with photos from different sites in Sweden.. Check out Joakims exploring on bjarnestam.se. Katarina

My photoproject about Bergslagen.

For you who remeber I started a photoproject in September 2014 about something. At the beginning I didn´t know what I was aiming to do but it later turned to be a project about Bergslagen. When I applied for what was also a course at the University I applied as a photoproject with the aim to go behind the cultural values of Bergslagen. I didn´t finish of course, but the course itself I finished this month and the following photos are my first from the project. I am thinking about building maybe a separate page here on the blog for the presentation of the project in the future but that is a later issue. At the moment or as long as I live still here in Grythyttan I´ll continue the project but on my own. I haven´t added any text but I have read poems in combination with looking on old photographs and other books from Bergslagen. Maybe I will add, maybe I won´t. At the moment you just have to enjoy the pics I …

Exploring Bergslagen – Mossgruvan

Me and Martin has been out and about today, doing some urban exploration. The notion of urban exploration might be new to someone but shortly it means, to explore a man-made object, often ruins or abandoned areas. This is a newly found interest of mine due to my photo project and I have posted posts before – Stripa Mossgruvan is a former mining village in the municipality of Ljusnarsberg in Västmanland (County of Örebro). I live in the county, so have about an hour by car to get to the two old mines in Mossgruvan, Sköttgruvan and Mossgruvan- mines. The two mines where found in the 1870´s and run to 1972, first started by SKF and culminating inbetween the years 56 to 58 (post-war times), by then owned by Hofors Bruk. Due to the prices of iron/ and the stone on the world market, the ability for Mossgruvan to compete vanished and the mine closed down by 72. The area is nostalgic in so many was. The buildings in the village are a remaining of the …

One of my favorite shots from the Stripa Mine.

Bergslagen, the area I live in is an old mining district. Through the ages mining and other metal industry have been the heart and soul of the area. The area is now changing and what was once a triving buisness is have disappeared gradually over a long time. I visited the Stripa mine this summer, an old mine- industry close to Lindesberg this summer. I like the old and especially the industry old. For me it was a gold mine of old Swedish steel industry history. At the moment this is what my photoproject is about. I am digging deep in old articles about Swedish mill history and the effect on the small communities in Sweden. Heartbreaking stories and strong opinions follow in the footsteps of the economic crisis, I assure you. Katarina

The old mine Stripa in Bergslagen – Sweden

In the Instagram Travel Thursday post this week I wrote a question in the end of where to go for a short trip within 300 km from Bergslagen if me and boyf. wanted to go somewhere during this weekend. I think I got only one suggestion, and that is probably just because this guy is from the area and know what is within 300km from Bergslagen. Thanks to Replicant Core for suggesting Visingsö even if we ended up somewhere else.. Rep. Core is a blogger that lives in Örebro and comment frequently on my photos. Where did we end up then? The old mine of Stripa, Stripa gruva, is a mine in Bergslagen close to Lindesberg. It is really well preserved and a dream for photographers that loves history, rusty stuff and buildings. So Rep. Core, maybe this is something for you instead? Basic knowledge For 60 sek (around 10 dollars) you get a guided tour (ours where for 3 hours!) where the guide has a lot of knowledge of the area. The tour takes place …
