Omnipollos hatt

My first thought was ”What are you saying??” next ”What do you mean?” and then ”Is this a joke?”. This is when Martin mentioned Omnipollos hatt. It felt like a toy store and who knew it was a bar? Walking the fifty metres from the subway exit I´m soon there. On Hökens gata you can find one of Stockholms best beer and pizza places. Everybody talks about it and I therefore I think it is worth its own post. Have you guys ever been to Omnipollos? A happy Oscar in the window. The first time I went was when I was invited by Martin through facebook to a guest play at Omnipollos by the restaurant Oaxen, a restaurant with 2 stars in the guide Michelin. After getting past believing it was a toy store, luxury pizza and cool beer felt as the best thing on a Sunday. I get my pizza and dig in. Oh my G*O*D. I am not a particular lover of pizzas but this pizza is something extra. Friday after work Camilla suggest …

a Christmas foodstory from Skansen

Darkness, only lights from the windows lighting up the city. When winter arrives so does the darkness. I don´t seem to manage ever to get out in daylight anymore, barely during lunch at work, even then it is dark some of the days. I get increasingly tired, day by day, it seems like you are eaten up by darkness from inside. Even though we are tired we manage to continue to work everyday. Like zombies we head for the subway, get on it and are off to work. In the afternoon everybody looks at the clock, its four and time to go. This particular day it is time for the annual celebration with Christmas food. For once I am looking forward to it. From work we take the subway to Slussen and from there the ferry to Djurgården. For me, the first time on a ferry in Stockholm, except from the short ride in Hammarby Sjöstad that I am not sure counts. It´s windy and when the ferry hits the break close to it´s goal …

Flippin Burger, Urban Deli and a graffiti release party

The cute design of the place is the first thing that my brain registrates. Crowded, American beer, Open kitchen, is the second, third and forth. To get here Martin and I have taken the subway from Mörby and then changed to bus to Odenplan. From Odenplan it is walking distance. On the way, we see a chef sitting in front of a restaurant smoking and Martin comments, ”isn´t there a backyard the guy can sit at?” It is Saturday and we are on the way to meet Oskar and Sara, two work colleagues of Martin and have a burger at Flippin Burger. I´ve heard of the place before, it has gotten tons of recommendations, so when arriving my expectations are sky high. So how ´Flippin´ was Flippin Burgers really? And for a veggie like me? FLIPPIN BURGER I am sad to say that I was a bit disappointed. The burger was great (bean – burger – love), but I, the queen of the side order, just ordered a burger and though that some kind of side …

the best chocolate balls in Stockholm

The Swedish cookie with the weirdest name, huh? Well, the Swedish chocolate ball is a known concept for all Swedish kid and are made in every home when we grow up. It is made from cocoa, butter, cold coffee, oatmeal, sugar and with coconut flakes or pearl sugar on top. It is an unbaked cake and fairly easy to do. You can find a recipe here. The cake is delicious and have always been one of my favourite cakes when growing up. The cake has also had another name in popular speech which today isn´t used due to it´s racist connotations. If you google the name + news, you will find a lot of recent articles and a resurfaced discussion about the phenomena. It is sad that we have to argue over a cake, but anyway, yesterday Martin and me headed to Muggen and had some lunch before going to the Swedish museum of photography – Fotografiska. The coffeeshop Muggen is situated in Götgatsbacken, close to the Subway station of Slussen (exit Götgatsbacken). In this little …

Having bahn mi at the food court K25

Some weeks ago after work Martin and I were hungry and headed on the usual hunt for food. Since moving to Stockholm we have gone to restaurants a lot of times. Bad for the wallet, but good for the food section of the blog since I most likely have a lot of tips for the future. Close to Martins job in the city centre you have a lot of places to try out but we decided for the food court K25. Scrolling the court, hungry, we decided for bahn mi in the far end at the restaurant Yoi. The result was yummier than expected, not at all expensive and we were full when leaving. An extra plus for the perfect edamame beans. So this is my Sunday food tips for you. Yoi – in the far end of the food court Backpackers Tofu 69 sek (bahn mi) Kimchi 22 sek (enought to share) Edamame Beans for 22 sek (enough to share) Adress: Kungsgatan 25, Stockholm Photos shot when walking over a bridge crossing Kungsgatan. Café Louvre

Walking slowly up some early 20th century stairs, the atmosphere that strikes you is Paris, movies, romance and early 20 th century it-people feeling. At the time modern and hip and today yet again modern and new. It is said that celebreties as Einstein and Kafka were here but this doesn´t need to be said since the feeling is like walking into a movie anyway, making the most humble tourist feel like a star. For the smokers Prague is different. I prefer that people don´t smoke inside, but when walking into Cafe Louvre, I don´t mind that there still is a smoking side in the restaurant. It just adds to the already great atmosphere. The Cafe Louvre is a cafe with waiters. They are dressed properly and quickly serves us the ten minute cava we have time for. Me and my travel mates Daniella and Nicoline is on a schedule. We have to try the cava, and fast. Stefan, the guide we have with us tell us that it is expensive, so a bottle is out …

Restaurants, cafées and food in Visby

I have been to Gotland two times now, once traveling around the island by car and this time during the medieval week. I think it is time for a list of some food I have eaten and my favorites so far are the vegetarian burger at Brooklyn Visby and the crepés at Crêperi & Logi in Visby, but the food during the medieval week is something extra as well. Most typical food to try out is Lamb (for the meat eater), Gotlandsdricka (a drink special for Gotland made from enbär/ juniper) and saffron pancake with salmbärs jam. Don´t worry if you are a vegetarian, all of Sweden have varied food and it is almost never ever any problem to get a veg dish instead of meat wherever you go. Restaurants Crêperi & Logi The last restaurant we had dinner at before leaving medieval week -15. They have what the name says, crepes. yey! Who doesn´t love crepes? Creperi & Logi have both food and desert crepes, ciders, wine and more. Mum and I had ”Madame” the most expensive crepes for around …

Austin Food Works

Now I am on the move again!  Yesterday we visited Stockholm for a couple of hours and then continued towards Arlanda and Greece in the morning. In Stockholm we met Emma and had some food at Austin Food Works on Norrtullsgatan. It is a American South styled restaurant (owned by some Texas Longhorn people) that serves food from, yes, the American South. The hipster factor is high I promise! Both Martin me and Emma enjoyed the food and service. I had a caesar sallad that was massive and Martin a meat dish. I had mine with some Kulla must, that tasted like an Apple cake with cinnamon and vanilla sauce. Yummie! The restaurant is both praise worthy and prise worthy, we paid around 500- 600 sek for three peeps. Later we continued towards Märsta and our friend Tommy´s place to stay the night before heading for Arlanda, the Stockholm airport, early in the morning. Now in Athens with family, preparing for a wedding. Hope you are prepared for a Greek weekend!  Katarina

en gaffel kort

In Österlen, to be specific, in Simrishamn, there is a place called en gaffel kort. If to google translate the name ”en gaffel kort” into English it it turns in to ”a fork cards”, which basically proves how bad google translate works for translating Swedish in to English and also explain my choice of writing in English in the first place. Translating it, using the the Swedish word kort which is short in this case, it becomes understandable ”a fork short” and even better when tossing the words around to ”the short fork”. By now I think everyone understands the name, and we will leave it at that. en gaffel kort Storgatan 3, 272 31 Simrishamn — Skåne Phone: 0414-44 80 70 www.engaffelkort.se When in Österlen and Gärsnäs, Simrishamn, the guys decided to book us a table at their own restaurant (where they work), en gaffel kort. The place, situated close to the water in Simrishamn is a small restaurant with the best food we had on our entire trip. I´m not sure if Martin …

Pauly Saal – how it feels to eat a star in Berlin

To please the mr in the family a visit to a one star Michelin restaurant was necessary. The choice fell on the restaurant Pauly Saal, a Beelin restaurant situated at the street Auguststrasse close to Oranienburger Tor. We visited the restaurant Wednesday evening after a long day of doing touristy stuff.  Before going we booked a table for 21.30 and the restaurant actually called to confirm the table. Maybe that was good since we had a time accident on the way. When going we added a 30 minutes to the schedule to be sure to make it but when getting to the station where we were to change tube the purple line was closed for maintenance. Oh no, we ran for the extra buses but no bus came so we ran back into the subway and had to go around to get to a station close by Auguststrasse but on the other side. This took forever. 15 minutes late we stumbled into the old jewish girl school and into the restaurant (the old gym hall) …

Miss Voon

Monday Caroline, Markus and I visited Miss Voon, one of the F12 – groups restaurants in Stockholm. With high expectations but not so much knowledge we took the bus to Stureplan for a seven dish course of Asian fusion food. Writing anything interesting about a restaurant is somewhat difficult. I haven´t much knowledge of the Stockholm food scene (even if I am aiming at getting some when moving there this summer) so this will be a short post of my main impression of this restaurant. Situated at Sturegatan 22, close to Elite Eden Park Hotel. You can book online. For the price of 750 sek (around 100 dollars) you will have a seven dish tasting menu, excluding wine at Miss Voon. Getting there I got my food adjusted for being vegetarian, still having fish and shellfish. The waiters where professional and polite and we didn´t have to wait on the food even though I got my menu adjusted. If to have any complaint, this would be that some of the dishes tasted less then the others. Maybe …

3 restaurants in Lima- Astrid y Gaston, La Mar and Tr3s Cocina Peruana

Here are 3 restaurant tips from Lima Peru (higher class). I have wrote and shown picture from two of them before, Astrid y Gaston and La Mar. Astrid y Gaston – Casa Moreyra To make a reservation for the tasting menu, use the online reservation. Check out the webpage for a map to the restaurant. The number one restaurant in Lima Peru spells Astrid y Gaston. This is the restaurant I have written severals times about and also the restaurant my boyfriend had a three months intership at. This restaurant serves traditional Peruvian cusine with a modern twist. The entire family had dinner there once and then had the 27 course tasting menu. The food is served on for the occasion and menu special designed china that is formed as for example a snake or tree. Cost is around 1500 SEK per person, around 180 dollars depending on the exchange rate. This is in European measures a very priceworthy meal since this includes wine and high class food. If you know that you are heading …

Another round at Zen

Last Thursday we spend some time at Zen yet again and this round around I brough my DSLR. Must say in these lightingconditions the DSLR does better than the cellphone even though that it is possible to shoot good photos with the phone nowadays. I was on a checkup at a skinterapeut after doing some facial treatments. The food is totally recommended and very yummie. We got ourself some Moshi at the asian store close to Zen and some other ingredients for Miso soup and other dishes as well. Will be back in a couple of days with a recipe for Miso soup that Martin cooked shortly after our visit at Zen. Katarina Shot with Canon 5D Mark iii, 40 mm Canon Lens f2.8.

Sen Street Food in Örebro

Yesterday I went to Örebro for some maintenance of my skin. Might tell you about it another day (and maybe show some pictures, if I dare.. ). Anyway, after my maintenance and some shopping me and my friends went for some food and found this amazing place in Örebro Saluhallar when purchasing cheese. I had a tofu dish, with shrimp dumplings and moshi ice-cream. The surprise being the ice-cream, never have I tried anything like that before. The taste of the food was delicious and it felt very fresh. A plus for the low price of around 35 sek for the dumplings and below 100 sek for the main dish. A price-wothy meal. Today we are having the cheese that we bough yesterday and the guys are at the University preparing marmelade to serve with the cheese. I wonder who bought crackers? Yesterday I forgot my memorycard to my camera, won´t do that mistake today! ciao. Katarina Ps. Tomorrow is last day competing about a travel guide from Karavan.   Photos: Shot with my iPhone 6+, …

Astrid y Gaston- Casa Moreyra

Finally we wen´t for dinner at Astrid y Gaston, the restaurant Martin has been working on for two months. And what a restaurant. It is the best I ever had. History Astrid y Gaston is the worlds 18th best restaurant and have newly updated from it´s old quarters in Miraflores and are situated in San Isidro, the business quarters of Lima. The name Astrid y Gaston, means what it is saying, Astrid and Gaston. Gaston is Perus famous chef that have given the Peruvian cuisine world status, and Astrid is his wife. The house, is of old colonial style which where owned by the people who owned San Isidro, and the name is Casa Hasienda Moreyra. The food There is four different kitchens and three restaurant within Casa Moreyra. We had the tasting menu of 27 courses, that take the customer all over Peru´s different regions (the coast, the mountains and the jungle) and their respective cuisine. It is an extraordinary experience where the food is perfect and well thought true. It is well balanced …

10 things to do in Lima- Post 3- Ceviche

The Ceviche will probably take my life. It is Lemon/Lime and Chili (Rocoto) madness, all the ingredients for something superb. Just look at it. Well back to business, the Times list recommend La Mar, the Astrid u Gaston restaurant for Ceviche where we already went and where the above pic is from. Here it is also possible to by a book or two about the Peruvian cuisine or Ceviche. Ceviche is 8th on the Time- list and you can read about it here. The funny thing about the photo they use is that I have been in Lima for almost two months now and NEVER seen Ceviche that look like that. I might ask someone where to find it. I really wan´t to know where they found this Ceviche. 1. Cebichería La Mar Av. La Mar 770, Miraflores, Lima, Peru; 51-(0)1-421-3365 lamarcebicheria.com borrowed from the Times list. But what is so special about Ceviche anyway? Why does it deserve a fancy prancy name like Ceviche? History The history of Ceviche tells me that it is a fishcourse, yeah well, obviously …

The restaurant La Mar

Yesterday we wen´t to the restaurant La Mar in Miraflores (another of Gastons restaurants) with Martin chef friends Ruben, José Luis and Monica. Fabulous food. Amazing. The best. And that is an understatement. I also bought a book, one of Gastons book about streetfood in Peru, aka the normal food. Afterwards we walked around in China Town, another part of Lima and yet again I will let the photos speak for themselves. Katarina Taken with the Canon 5D, ed in Lightroom.
