First thing back I head out for a photowalk, who could have guessed? I think that every body who follow this blog would have guessed that by now. The weather in Sweden is fantastic. Yesterday when shooting these photos the sun was shining and the temperature perfect. Today it is hot, a bit to hot for my taste and after work I locked myself in the cool dark apartment playing videogames, eating Nutella directly from the jar. Yes, I know, it is not healthy. Just got back from a evening out with my work colleagues ”celebrating” me moving to Stockholm and a new workplace. One of my bosses turned up, a very nice surprise. Trains in Bergslagen – from Grythyttan to Copenhagen

After a lot of thinking we never bought any interrail tickets for our traintravel in Europe. The main reason being that it in the end wasn’t going to be any cheaper, but also the fact that it wasn’t as comfortable as I thought, actaully, it was tricky.   Reading instructions on interrail homepage made it sound easy. But in the end when checking other sites and people who used it it seemed like you had to pay extra booking and reservation fees. I thought the whole point was that you don’t needed to do this? Checking more closely this was the case in almost all countries I checked so in the end we decided to go for buying one ticket at a time.  Price for ingerrail excluding booking/reservation fees, about 3500 sek/ 360 euro for Martin for 22 days (21 years of age) and 7500 sek/760 euro for me. (Seeing that, I realised I was old) So today when leaving our first tickets were booked and ready on the SJ webpage for Swedish trains. These tickets …

Grythyttan graduation

And the day when Martins is graduating finally arrived. The time here in Grythyttan has passed somewhat to quick when thinking back. Feels like it was only yesterday Martin and me were driving from Vimmerby to Hällefors the first time to pick up our keys to the apartment we have been living in here in Grythyttan. And now, the last day for the third year students have arrived. The day started with two hours in Grythyttan church where scholarships where presented as well as speeches from teachers and students. Carl – Jan Granqvist attended and spoke about the importance of Grythyttan and what it means to be a student from Grythyttan, in the culinary world.There were many laughs and a lot of joy during the ceremony as well as after. Our friend Daniel Malm received Gjutjärnspriset in his folklore suit for his reflections about the craftsmanship of cooking and what it means to be a student here- now and in the future. Naturstigen Grythyttan

Yesterday when I was out shooting my self portraits I met two birdwatchers down by the lake. They told me about this nature-trail behind Grythyttans Herrgård. So we went and checked it out. I don´t think I never learned so much about birds before! The purpose of the nature trail is that is close to Grythyttan and for that easy to access for those in need of rest or a break from everyday life, according to those who have created it, Kristina Henricsson who owns Grythyttans Herrgård, and Niklas Collin and Maria Nilsdotter Werdin (natural health educator). I will definitively return to this path more times since it is next to my house basically and have a beaver dam as well as feeding places for birds where you can sit down and look at birds for a while. The path has more than one sign where you can read about the beaver, birds and the railway that used to pass Grythyttans Herrgård for example. Roadtrip Norway: Grythyttan – Oslo (stretch one)

 Having a coffee break outside Karlstad My mother and I started our roadtrip to Norway on the 8th of April, it lasted for five days and the goal was Oslo, Bergen and Lillehammer, stopping at some spots inbetween. The distance is around 300 km and is estimated to take around 4 hours. Mother and I took the first break in Grums, at Gruvön, checking out some graffiti and having a coffee break.   Continuing to Töcksfors After having our coffeebreak we continued against our first actual stop, Båstnäs and the Ivanssons bilskrot. Directions: Coming from Karlstad you take E18 towards Oslo. When in Töcksfors you turn left heading for Västra Fågelvik (you see a church on the right side of the road when turning). You continue on this road for around 25 km, never exiting just driving straight ahead. After 25 km you reach the sign ”Här slutar allmän väg” and that is when you are at the car cemetary of Båstnäs.     It is really something extra when arriving in Båstnäs. That is also …

Roadtrip Grythyttan – Bergen – heading from Sweden to Norway

  What was first suppose to be a weekend in Berlin, turned out to be something else. It became a roadtrip in Norway Mum and I are heading out Wednesday morning having a five day busy schedule. Distances Grythyttan – Oslo, passing Karstad, the car cemetary of Töcksfors/ Båstnäs Oslo – Bergen , passing the touristroad of Haugastol and Eidfjord Bergen – Lillehammer, passing the touristroad Aurland – Lardalsoyri Lillehammer – Grythyttan, heading home Since I do not have time to post any posts on the blog during our trip I have prepared some time-set posts about photography, travel and food. Now it is only packing the bag and some fika and soon I am off! 🙂 Katarina

I rambling on about my pinterest account, but for the photolover it is so much fun. Collecting whatever you like. On my Pinterest I have all these great billboards. One of my personal favorites that I care a bit extra about is ”Food and cooking in Grythyttan” . It is food photography from Grythyttan. Some photos are mine and some are randomly found on internet. Try to update as often as I can with my own photos etc. Checked my archive (not pinterest and found some fun photos from earlier). Chef and cooking related. In a way, food is amazing an certainly brings us all together. We often meet up to have food together here in Grythyttan and that is certainly something I will miss if leaving this small village. Vinterfesten – the annual winter party in Grythyttan

This weekend has been all about partying. Must say I I´m not a big party person anymore but this weekend held both a Christmas party for work (julbord) but also the annual winter party in Grythyttan, Vinterfesten. Didn’t bring my Canon to any of the events, but my polaroid camera. Check out the photos below from my instagram shot with my iPhone 6+ and my instax mini polaroid camera. Winterfesten had the theme Circus and held many surprises as an actually magician and also a fire-show that I caught on film. Testing my friends Nikon D90- some houses and leaves- in Grythyttan

Always wanted to try out a Nikon DSLR. My friend have one and got to borrow it for a while. Tried it out this weekend. My first reactions was ”How the **** do I set Iso, aperture and shutterspeed. After a while I found it and moved on started shooting, realizing that I already forgot how to set the different settings, again I found them and so forth. My second reaction- The colors are different? The colors feel more saturated. Could this be right? Well the following photos are edited and I haven´t done a real comparison with other of my photos. My third reaction- In a way it feels easier to handle and have less ”sensitive” settings. In general I feel this camera is a great alternative to a professional camera. I am not the kind of person that can afford more than one camera, but if I where, I might go for a Nikon as a complement for my Canon for fun and for photowalks, since it is easier to carry around. This week I passed the line of one year as a blogger! Lets celebrate! Put together a bunch of photos from my first year. How much I have been doing, I kind of got surprised myself. Read or just look at the photos, it is your choice. My first post was written about Grythyttans Gästgiveri, and well, it only contained photos. My aim, was of course from the beginning that I should only develop my skills of journalism and I started with photos. September 2013   Over time I got better at photography, even though I still found it a bit tricky after a couple of months. This photo was taken at Björkskogsnäs naturreservat in november last year, and well, was probably a lucky shot. October- November 2013   In november I also did a interview with the fashion blogger Modemanifestet.  Still remember that with a happy face. A moment of peace- Bergslagen, Grythyttan and Bredsjö blå.

My friend Caroline and her mate Marcus is here during the weekend. We are enjoying the fabulous Swedish summer weather and Bergslagen from it´s best side. In a way, at the moment, I´m traveling the backyard of where I live. Sometimes this is the best. Canon 5D Mark iii, 24-105 mm Canon lens as well as 50mm lens from Canon, edited in Lightroom. When Marcus and Caroline arrived we prepared some hard bread with Bredsjö blå and hjortronsylt (cloudberry jam). We enjoyed it with a bottle of wine and some more.. Martin prepared a secret jar that will be ready in a week. Me and Caroline posed for a full shot photo. Her wearing a desigual and me in my kaftan from Röda korset and my Moheda wooden shoes. Martin guided us through Måltidens house in Grythyttan. Where he showed us a kitchen that comes up from the floor (and got stuck on the way down, creating a bit of stress .. ). Nu åker vi snart! Det känns overkligare än overkligast. Dags att göra ett nytt inlägg om förberedelser (så att jag kommer igång med mitt packande), för vi åker på lördag och jag har inte börjat packa ännu! Få inte panik nu. Grythyttans Brewery and the Indian Pale Ale

The 20th of January Systembolagets released their sales figures for 2013, and the Swedish stronger beers are one of the winners, increasing with 0,8 % percent during the year even though a lot of people also go abroad to buy their alcohol due to the high alcohol-taxes in Sweden. The losers are ciders and strong wines, among others, actually having a decreasing sale. A trend of microbreweries that started a long time ago in the US have finally come to Sweden. Sweden had about 20 breweries in the early 90s compared to the later part of the 19th century when it were more than 500 breweries existing in Sweden. Now we have around 70-80 breweries and emerging, some numbers saying around 100 breweries.
