Thousands of dolphins stranded and dead in Peru two years ago- remains a mystery?

A couple of years ago thousands of dolphins stranded and died on the coast of Peru and the reason was and remain a mystery. Interviewing Barbara Fraser, environmental reporter in Peru for my thesis, she mentioned the dolphins during the interview, and said that this might remain a mystery. I remember reading about it in a short notice in a Swedish newspaper when it happened, but nothing more than that. Barbara, on the other hand, have written an excellent article to read to be enlightened in the subject. It can be read here. The marine eco system are easily forgotten, might be since we are land animals ourself. But it is important that every now and then think about the seas and what we are doing to them as fishing and oil-drilling. The latter could be the reason to the mass death of the dolphins since they easily get disoriented by sounds. It could also be an enhancement of chemicals, due to the fact that the dolphins are high in the foodchain and by this …

The Nazca lines

Early Sunday morning we wen´t to Nazca. It was an adventure of a lifetime I never forget, mostly due to that I was so close of throwing up on the plane but also that I discovered that what everyone is talking about is true. There is a lot of lines and you can see them. It is mysterious and cool. Take off was okay. Smaller plane means more bumps and jumps, but I was fine. They asked if everybody where ok and at first I had no clue why. A little later I got to find out why. Everytime we passed an important figure they tipped the plane first to the left and then to the right so everybody could see them. This was why you got sick. The Asian girl in front of Martin actually did throw up, not so funny. I had to fight it, but survived even if I thanked God when I was back on ground. Before the trip I longed for it since I really enjoy the desert. It was so …

Nazca forth and back, managed to get plane sick and then wen´t to Huacca China

(Blogging from the phone, photos taken with my iPhone) – photos of nazca will be posted later. We started the day super early. Left the hotel Posada del sol. Very nice stay for a very low price. The hotel was close to plaza de armas in Ica Peru, costed 40 sol for 2 persons (93sek, 14 dollar or 10 euro) and had both shower, comfortable bed, wi-fi and gave us 2 soaps which we now brought to the new hotel in Huacca China, the oasis outside Ica.   Martin walking the empty streets of Ica, 6 o clock On the way we bought some fruit. (Sunday morning) Staying to eat at a blue restaurant returning from Nazca- photos where taken with my DSLR so will post some during the week. The blue restaurant is in Ica, and probably have a name of which I am not familiar with. This is the oasis Huacca China sprung from the legend of a crying princess. Today a backpacker miniparadise where you can eat, sleep, sunbade, swim, climb the …

A visit to a marina- first time with penguins

It is hard to skip blogging! Here is a quick update from the phone. Been to the marina on the way to Nasca, Martin shot this photo of me in paracas where we went on a boat to look at penguins. Trust me when I say that I shot some amazing pics there. Returning to the marina, we where greeted by some pelicans. After this adventure we went to the town Pisco and looked around. This called for a selfie since I bought a new best friend, the hat. We then got on the road again and went as far as Ica. Martin resting in the hotel. We didn’t book hotel, just asked when we got there. Now we are resting for an early start 6 o’clock. Katarina

Preparing for Nazca.

I´m so exited! This weekend we are leaving to discover Nazca and the south of Lima. Will be ”offline” for the weekend, due to we are travelling early morning (around 6 here local time/) and coming back Monday (lunes). I will have so much photos to show when I come back. I realized that I fell in love with the desert. Not many people seem interest in the deserts of Peru, but there is something special about it. It might be that I have never seen any before but on the other hand seen loads of mountains, since we have these in Sweden as well as in other places of Europe. Have been to something that is similar to a desert when traveling in the states. They call them dunes, and me Chris and Josefine and Chris sister wen´t there to drive four wheelers. Dug up some photos from facebook (taken by Chris, or me , Taylor or Jos) first two photos showies us in the Rockies and the third us in the dunes. Think …

Editing photography- Lightroom as an app!

It is what I have been waiting for since I bough my iPad and finally, the other day I got a mail from Adobe saying ”Lightroom now exist as an app”. The app is totally free, but you do need an Creative Cloud account, or maybe it is enough with just Lightroom as a program, not entirely sure. I have creative cloud and everything just worked for me right away. My favorite feature of this new program is: – syncing from Lightroom in the laptop. – being able to use raw files in the app, without problem. – Showing the pictures in the app and instantly knowing the manual settings, which camera it was taken with etc. – And yes, of course editing in the app! This app is my new best friend right after Adobe Ideas, the drawing app. Katarina
